Lambs in the Allotments!

May 13th, 2011 -- Posted in allotments | No Comments »

Earlier this week, probably on Monday or Tuesday, the allotment gate was left open and a number of inquisitive lambs took a tour of the allotments.

Please take extra care to make sure the gate is properly closed!

Can I also ask allotment members to ensure that the close any other gates that they open, e.g. those leading into the field. I know it takes an extra moment when you have a wheelbarrow but do remember that the field is used for grazing, even if it is empty much of the time.

Thanks,

Richard

Seed Exchange at Garrigill Village Hall

April 30th, 2011 -- Posted in allotments | No Comments »

SATURDAY 7 MAY, 11am – 4pm
GARRIGILL VILLAGE HALL

Lodestone is an event for you to exchange, buy and sell local produce, services and resources – anything that you think might be valued by someone else. This might be bric-a-brac, artisan food, cosmetics, seedlings and plants, vintage clothing, books, drawings, poetry, web pages to share, musical groups to form, collaborations to develop…

If you have items to sell, exchange, barter or give away, all you need to do is to turn up with your goods and make your pitch (doors open for sellers at 10.30am). To cover our expenses, we’ll take 10% commission on sales, and receive donations on other exchanges. If you just want to come along and browse what’s on offer, you’re welcome. Entrance is free.

There will be locally-produced refreshments available all day. As well as buying, selling and exchanging, use the occasion to meet new friends and enjoy it as a social event. There’s play equipment for children at the rear of the hall and a safe play field. You might even be able to book a session in St.John’s Pool, adjacent to the hall, for a swim and a session in the spa. The George & Dragon is open, so you only have to walk 50m to enjoy a drink. If the weather’s nice, you can sit out at the chairs and table on the village green, or at the carved oak seat in the shade of the huge tree.

This event is being promoted in association with Sustainable Alston Moor (SAM), which is a group with a shared interest in looking at Alston Moor’s need and capacity to make itself more sustainable.

We look forward to seeing you at Garrigill Village Hall.

Christmas Celebration - Change of time

December 6th, 2008 -- Posted in allotments | No Comments »

Hi Folks,

We’ve had to change the time of our Christmas bash from 6 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday 14th December.

This is to give people the chance to attend the Village Hall meeting concerning the pub, which starts at 7 p.m.

So come along an hour earlier if you can.

Thanks,

Richard

Christmas Celebration

December 2nd, 2008 -- Posted in allotments | No Comments »

Hi all,

snowman

Yay, it's Christmas!

We’re planning an informal drink or two at the George & Dragon on Sunday 14th December at 6 p.m. for all allotment holders and friends, to celebrate the end of our first year. Please come along if you can make it.

Mulled Wine and Mince Pies will be provided - there’ll be a charge of about ÂŁ3 (depending on how many turn up).

Why not come along after the Craft Fair in the Village Hall.

See you there,

Richard

I’ve just been looking through some of the photos I took in the summer. This one is from September 4th - a fine harvest for our first year. Well done Marg!

If anyone would like some topsoil, Malcolm Hymers is digging a patio and has several bags we can have. They are just inside the gate at Sharon Cottage. If you take any please return the bag.
